Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) announces the Integrated Solar Green Roofs Workshop, a masterclass at CitiesAlive 2026 led by Alan Burchell, Principal of Urbanstrong.

As pressure grows to maximize the performance of urban rooftops, integrated solar and green roof systems are emerging as one of the most effective ways to combine renewable energy generation, stormwater management, biodiversity enhancement, and economic return. This session will provide attendees with a practical roadmap for understanding and implementing these systems.

Participants will examine how solar arrays and green roofs work together to improve overall rooftop performance, review successful installations, and explore the policy and incentive landscape that is driving adoption throughout New York City and beyond.

A Professional Engineer, LEED Accredited Professional, and Green Roof Professional, Burchell has spent years helping building owners and developers unlock the value of the "fifth facade." His work focuses on helping organizations rethink rooftops as productive assets that generate environmental and economic returns.
