Jennifer Bousselot’s keynote, Roofscapes Reimagined: Food, Flowers, and Power for Resilient Cities, will explore how green roofs can support urban food resiliency, biodiversity, renewable energy generation, and pollinator health through the integration of native plants, rooftop agriculture, and solar infrastructure.
Drawing on more than 20 years of research, Bousselot will examine how green roofs function as multifunctional systems that go far beyond aesthetics. Her work highlights the potential for rooftop landscapes to improve stormwater management, create ecological habitat, support local food production, and transform underused urban spaces into resilient environmental infrastructure.
Bousselot and her research team study native plants, green roof plant-pollinator interactions, rooftop agriculture, stormwater capture, and rooftop agrivoltaics, also known as the integration of solar panels on green roofs. Her research has contributed significantly to advancing the understanding of how green infrastructure can strengthen urban ecological systems while supporting climate adaptation goals.
An accredited Green Roof Professional, Bousselot serves as Editor of the Journal of Living Architecture and has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications related to green roofs, native plants, and local foods. She has also co-authored several books and book chapters focused on native plant systems and ecoregional green roofs.
