Green Roofs for Healthy Cities Announces Grey to Green Toronto Conference

Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) is excited to announce the Toronto Grey to Green Conference, to be held in person on June 11-12. The conference is set to bring together industry experts, designers, policy-makers, and community leaders to explore the latest trends and innovations in green infrastructure. With Toronto being one of the fastest-growing cities in North America, the city faces unique challenges in managing its urban environment. From extreme weather events to rising temperatures and air pollution, the impacts of climate change are being felt across the city. The conference seeks to provide solutions and strategies for building a sustainable and resilient city for all. The conference will cover themes including:

  • Designing for the Future

  • Moving from Policy to Practice

  • Climate Positive Design

June 11 will feature training and tours, including the new certification "Green Roof Installation & Maintenance Professional Training" (GRIMP) session with limited registration. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from experts in the field, learn about the latest research, and connect with others who are passionate about building a greener, healthier city.There will also be a series of tours at River City 3, Corktown Common, Baseball Place, Morse Street Junior Public School, and Avling Brewery.

June 12 will feature a full-day plenary-style conference and attached trade show. Speakers include:

  • Letitia Silk, National Director of Business Development & Growth, The Architek Group of Companies, will be presenting on biophilic design and living architecture.

  • Arlene Throness, Urban Farm Manager & Sharene Shafie, Research Coordinator, Toronto Metropolitan University, will be discussing Toronto Metropolitan University’s new rooftop farm for social justice.

  • Niloufar Mohajerani, M.A.Sc, P.Eng, Senior Engineer, City of Toronto, will be discussing the City of Toronto’s green infrastructure standards.

The conference is pending 7 CEUs for AIA, ASLA, CNLA, and GRP, and will feature expert sessions and a trade show. See the full agenda here, and register here.
