Architect Rutger Huiberts of MVRDV Announced as a Keynote Speaker for CitiesAlive 2026 in NYC Sept 30-Oct 3

Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) is pleased to announce Rutger Hubert, AIA, Director at MVRDV’s, as a keynote speaker at CitiesAlive 2026 from Sept 30 to Oct 3 at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge.
Under the theme “Future Proofing New York With Green Infrastructure”, CitiesAlive 2026 will bring together hundreds of industry professionals, including researchers, policymakers, architects, manufacturers, contractors and designers to explore how cities can respond to better manage stormwater, heat, biodiversity, health, and jobs.
Rutger Huiberts
Director and Architect Rutger Huiberts oversees MVRDV’s projects and acquisitions in North America, leading the firm’s New York Office. Huiberts brings a passion and curiosity for everything that architecture has to offer, in particular for computational and data-driven design, sustainability, and urban placemaking. Alongside the MVRDV team, he brings a fresh perspective to the North American urban context, grounded in an appreciation of local practices and ways of working while looking at them through a different lens. He plays a key role in several ongoing projects, including the winning proposal to redevelop Gansevoort Square in Manhattan with an apartment building that includes 55 percent affordable units, and the masterplan for Cleveland’s North Coast.
At CitiesAlive 2026, Sundlin will join several other keynote speakers addressing the challenges and opportunities facing cities today. The program will also feature trainings, panels, tours, and networking opportunities.
CitiesAlive 2026 takes place September 30 to October 3, 2026 at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. Conference hotel rooms are expected to sell out soon. Attendees are encouraged to book their accommodation as early as possible to secure a room at the special conference rate of $369 USD per night.
Student scholarships are also still available for eligible students interested in attending CitiesAlive 2026. Applications are open while funding remains available.
