New Podcast on Sustainable Futures: Charting the Evolution of Green Roofs with Linda Velazquez
Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) has launched the latest episode of its podcast series, Sustainable Futures: Designing Green Communities and Buildings, featuring green roof pioneer, designer, and advocate Linda S. In this episode, host Steven Peck, Founder and President of GRHC, speaks with Linda about her early experiences discovering green roofs in the late 1990s and her unique perspective on the growth and maturation of the industry over the past 25 years. As the founder and publisher of Greenroofs.com, Linda has played a defining role in documenting, connecting, and advancing green roof and green wall projects around the world.
Drawing on decades of global observation and hands-on practice, Linda shares insights into standout projects, emerging innovations, and current trends shaping the industry today. The conversation explores where green roof market expansion holds the greatest potential globally, what is driving progress in the United States, and the challenges that continue to hold the industry back.
Linda also reflects on the origins and future of the expansive Greenroofs.com project database, her annual “Top 10 List of Hot Trends in Greenroof & Greenwall Design,” and her concerns, and hopes, for the future of living architecture amid intersecting global crises.
Linda S. Velazquez holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia and is principal of Sky Gardens Studio, where she focuses on ecological design and environmental performance. She has been widely published in books and journals and is recognized internationally as a leading voice in green roof and green wall innovation.
