Rooftop Agriculture Technology Virtual Symposium March 16, 2022

February 28, 2022: Green Roofs for Healthy Cities is excited to announce the Urban Agriculture Technology, Design, and Planning Symposium to be held virtually on March 16 from 1 PM - 5:00 PM EST. Urban agriculture is a productive form of green infrastructure that supports local economies, creates jobs, improves access to fresh produce, supports social justice, and increases biodiversity. Register and earn CEUs from AIA, ASLA, GRP credits, and 2 credits from APLD for $50 USD admission.

Urban and rooftop agriculture experts will share the benefits and challenges associated with various urban agriculture projects in Canada and the US. Our expert panel will discuss opportunities and constraints associated with accelerating the adoption of rooftop farming projects and dive deep in Q & A sessions!

Expert speakers include:

  • Roxanne Miller, Directrice at SOPRANATURE® Canada,  will present an award winning case study of the IG Duchemin’s Rooftop Farm, the first supermarket in Canada to sell produce grown on it’s own roof.

  • Jeremy Wright, Business Development and Project Manager, Zinco Canada Inc., will present new research being conducted by the Ryerson Resilience Engineering Lab and ZinCo Canada on the productivity of green roof substrate to support vegetable production, and the evapotranspiration rates of vegetables in a green roof system.

  • Jennifer Bousselot, Colorado State University  will introduce the concept of rooftop agrivoltaics and share new research developments under field conditions that show how solar panel effectiveness benefits from the cooling effect provided by evapotranspiration from the cropping system.

  • Steven Peck, GRP, Founder of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities,  will provide an analysis of the different economic and operational models of open rooftop farming.

  • Mark Winterer, Director of Operations, Recover Green Roofs, LLC, will tackle the business case for rooftop farms from a project ideation and planning.
