Recover Green Roofs Hosts Contractor Open House

Recover Green Roofs (Recover) is excited to announce an upcoming Contractor Open House, designed for general contractors interested in green roof installation. The event will take place at Recover’s warehouse in Woburn, MA, offering attendees a unique opportunity to learn from industry experts about the planning, design, and implementation of green roofing systems.

The event will feature a mock-up with a waterproof membrane, an innovative blue roof solution, and a built-in-place planter on pedestals. Guests will enjoy a facility tour, a 45-minute presentation with a case study, and a Q&A with an expert panel representing construction, design, project management, and horticulture. Mark Winterer, Owner & Co-Founder of Recover Green Roofs, will deliver the keynote presentation. In-person attendees will also enjoy lunch and networking opportunities. A virtual attendance option is available for those unable to join in person.

The presentation will cover:

  • Design considerations for green roofs

  • Construction planning & execution

  • Scheduling, sequencing, and common challenges

  • Workarounds and problem-solving

  • Fundamentals of green roof design

As cities increasingly integrate green infrastructure to combat climate change and improve urban livability, green roofs are becoming a critical component of modern construction. A prime example is the green roof that Recover is currently installing at IQHQ in Alewife, under contract with AECOM Tishman. This sedum green roof project incorporates a Purple Roof System alongside solar panels, marking the first installation of its kind in the region. Sempergreen played a key role in making this project a reality.

“Green roofs are more than just a sustainability feature; they’re an investment in long-term building performance and resilience,” explains Winterer. “When combined with solar panels, green roofs enhance sustainability by naturally cooling the environment, which improves panel efficiency. In turn, solar panels provide partial shade, helping to sustain plant health and water retention. This synergy maximizes the environmental benefits of both systems while increasing energy efficiency.”

The IQHQ green roof is expected to reduce stormwater runoff, lower cooling costs, and create a thriving pollinator habitat. This project represents a growing trend in the industry—integrating multiple sustainability solutions into a single rooftop system. “We’re thrilled to be part of this project and to collaborate with AECOM Tishman in bringing nature back into the built environment,” says Winterer. “This installation demonstrates how green infrastructure can seamlessly integrate with modern construction to benefit both people and the planet.”
