Green Roofs for Healthy Cities Welcomes Christian Mahlstedt as the New Chair of the Board
Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Christian Mahlstedt as the new Chair of the Board. Mr. Mahlstedt brings a wealth of experience in sustainable design and business leadership, further strengthening GRHC’s mission to promote healthier, more resilient urban environments through the use of living architecture. Mr. Mahlstedt replaces outgoing Chair Matt Barmore, who will continue to serve as a Past Chair.
Mr. Mahlstedt is the Founder and President of Ginkgo Sustainability, a Toronto based firm which designs, builds and maintains green roofs and walls. Before he established GINKGO, Mr. Mahlstedt worked for a Kitchener-based roofing contractor’s green roofing division. Prior to his foray into business, for reasons unknown, he completed a degree in philosophy. When he is not quoting, working with clients and suppliers, or getting his hands dirty on a roof, you will find him spending time with his family.
Prior to becoming the Chair, Mr. Mahlstedt served as Treasurer of GRHC. As the new Chair of the Board, Mahlstedt will focus on advancing GRHC’s strategic initiatives, fostering collaborations, and amplifying the association’s impact in the rapidly growing green infrastructure sector.
In accepting his nomination, Christian told the board, “I'm honoured and excited to help lead GRHC in the upcoming years. In the face of multiple challenges, green infrastructure is a critical tool in making our urban areas more resilient, healthy, and sustainable. To support this we need to promote more policy implementation, drive innovation among our stakeholders, including supporting the research community, and provide training across the value chain from design through to maintenance. These three pillars will ensure that we continue to create impactful growth in the industry. I look forward to working with the GRHC team and board to further our vision.”
