Green Roofs for Healthy Cities Announces Grey to Green Boston Conference: April 23-24 2023
Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) is excited to announce the Boston Grey to Green Conference, to be held in person on April 23-24. The conference aims to explore the latest developments in green infrastructure science, economic valuation, asset management, public policy, technologies, and best practices in design, installation, and maintenance. “It's unbelievable to see all the cranes on the Boston Skyline, and there seems to be a new highrise every day,” says Mark Winterer of Recover Green Roofs. “We all know the impact of this growth, and I'm glad Boston and the neighboring cities see the value in green infrastructure. Historically we've pushed plants away from our buildings, and our cities are now hotter and more stressed. We need to rethink how we build for the future so we can bring plants back into our lives, and I'm glad Green Roofs For Healthy Cities is kicking off its 2023 tour in Boston and helping us make our Emerald City green again.”
Tailored content will be provided for designers, contractors, installers, maintenance professionals, and policymakers, with a focus on practical information about the implementation and maintenance of green infrastructure systems. The event will span two days, offering training, tours, technical presentations, panel discussions, and a central trade show.
The conference is pending approval for 7 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from professional organizations such as AIA, ASLA, IIBEC, and USGBC, and is approved for 7 Green Roof Professional (GRP) Credits.
April 23 will feature training and tours, including the new certification "Green Roof Installation & Maintenance Professional Training" (GRIMP) session at the Recover Green Roof Facility in Somerville, MA, with an admission fee of $495 USD, limited to six attendees on a first-come-first-served basis. There will be a tour of the green roof on CALA (Powderhouse). Powderhouse consists of 48 residences, 22,000 square feet of dynamic commercial space and over an acre of public and green space.
April 24 will feature a full-day plenary-style conference and attached trade show, with a venue at the Fort Point Room in Boston, MA, and admission fees of $125 USD for GRHC members and $150 USD for non-members.

Kate England, Director of Green Infrastructure, City of Boston, giving the keynote address at the conference.
Mikyoung Kim, FASLA, Founder & Design Director at Mikyoung Kim Design who will discuss improving the health and wellbeing in urban realms using rooftop gardens
Erik Hegre, AIA, Office Director at BEHNISCH ARCHITEKTEN who will discuss how green roofs are an integrated approach to architectural design
