Green Building Initiative Launches ACCESS Program to Expand Equitable Access to Green Building Certification
Green Building Initiative (GBI) envisions a world where sustainable, healthy, and resilient buildings are available for all. That’s why we’re committed to making green building certification accessible to any building owner or project team dedicated to improving the design and/or operations of their building. Green Globes can be used as a guide to create resource efficient and healthy buildings and as a certification system to recognize exceptional projects and promote community engagement. Through the ACCESS Program, GBI provides complimentary access to our trusted, third-party sustainable building certifications and expert guidance for organizations whose building projects benefit their local communities.
ACCESS supports mission-driven organizations by removing financial barriers to high-performance building certification. Selected recipients receive:
• Free Green Globes®, Ascent™, or Journey to Net Zero™ certification
• Support from a Green Globes Professional (GGP)
• Recognition of their commitment to sustainability, resilience, and occupant well-being
The program ensures that healthy, sustainable buildings are accessible to all, particularly those that uplift and serve their communities.
Eligible nominations include any building project — new construction, renovation, retrofit, or existing building — that delivers tangible community benefit. Examples include:
• Nonprofits & community service organizations
• Educational and cultural facilities
• Health and social service providers
• Community centers and civic buildings
• Affordable or supportive housing
• Other mission-driven organizations advancing public good
The annual call for nominations will be open through January 31, 2026.
