Green Roofs for Healthy Cities will host the SoCal Grey to Green Conference on Thursday, December 3, 2026, at the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP) in Costa Mesa, California. The event will bring together architects, landscape architects, researchers, policymakers, and green infrastructure professionals to explore strategies for advancing green infrastructure across Southern California.
Southern California faces environmental challenges including rising temperatures, prolonged drought, water scarcity, and increasingly intense rainfall. Green infrastructure solutions, including green roofs, living walls, permeable landscapes, and urban tree canopies, can help communities manage stormwater, reduce urban heat, conserve water, support biodiversity, and improve urban livability.
Through expert presentations, panel discussions, and case studies, attendees will explore current approaches to green infrastructure design and implementation, climate resilience, and urban biodiversity. The conference will also provide opportunities to connect with professionals working to advance green infrastructure across the region.
The conference will feature presentations from:
Dr. Jennifer Bousselot, Associate Professor, Colorado State University, Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, presenting Rooftop Agrivoltaics in Semiarid Colorado: A Triple Win
Bruce Dvorak, FASLA, PLA, Professor, Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, Texas A&M University, presenting Green Roofs in Mediterranean Climates
Dr. Elizabeth Fassman-Beck, Engineering Department Head, Southern California Coastal Water Research Project, presenting Green Infrastructure in Southern California
Vishal Seth, Technical Director, Skyland USA (Rooflite), presenting Engineered Soil Mechanics: Designing Green Roof Profiles for Weight, Hydrology, and Stormwater Performance
Tom Liptan, Green Infrastructure Consultant and Researcher, presenting Stormwater Design Considerations
Alan Burchell, GRP, Principal, Urbanstrong, presenting Solar and Green Roof Integration
The SoCal Grey to Green Conference will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on December 3 at SCCWRP, 3535 Harbor Blvd., Suite 110, Costa Mesa, California. Registration is only $39 USD and includes lunch. Free on-site parking is available.
