CitiesAlive 2026: Future Proofing New York With Green Infrastructure
The 20th CitiesAlive Conference returns to New York City this fall under the theme “Future Proofing New York With Green Infrastructure.” Future proofing requires that we take action now to ensure that cities like New York are able to maintain a high quality of life during the climate crisis. Scaling up green infrastructure is an essential component of ensuring that our cities remain livable this century.
At the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, CitiesAlive will bring together architects, landscape architects, engineers, researchers, policymakers, contractors, developers, manufacturers, and other professionals who are working towards a greener, more resilient future.
With cities facing increasing pressures from climate change such as extreme heat and intense storms, the CitiesAlive conference will explore how green infrastructure, particularly green roofs and walls, can help address various challenges. This four day event offers designers CEUs to support their professional development with education, networking, awesome keynotes, fun tours, inspired technical sessions, new research, an exhibit hall with the latest products and services, GRP and GRIMP training, and opportunities to connect with leaders from across the industry, and the country. Educational Tracks
CitiesAlive features concurrent sessions covering Design, Policy, Research, Best Practices, Masterclasses, and Panel. CEUs for architects and landscape architects are available for design professionals who attend the conference. Attendees will hear about topics including: emerging green roof technologies, international projects, designing for enhanced stormwater management, strengthening urban climate resilience, designing for biodiversity, New York specific policies, and new research from many leading academic institutions.

For the first time, the program also includes six 90-minute masterclasses on design, led by recognized industry experts, providing an opportunity to take a deeper dive into topics including biophilic design, design for biodiversity, designing irrigation systems, designing for maximum stormwater management, and green wall design.
The conference will host an exhibit hall showcasing companies in the green roof and green infrastructure industry and provide lunches on the trade show floor as well as dinner and drinks on October 1st.

CitiesAlive will also host the Green Roof Installation and Maintenance Professional (GRIMP) Training and Accreditation provides hands-on instruction in green roof installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, waterproofing, and long-term performance. Participants will build mock green roof systems while learning the practical skills needed to successfully install and maintain basic extensive green roofs. Learn more here.
Also on September 30, the Green Roofs 101 course will provide an introduction to green roof design, benefits, applications, and performance, making it suitable for professionals new to the field as well as those looking to refresh their skills. Learn more here.
CitiesAlive offers plenty of opportunities to connect with colleagues and industry leaders. The conference opens with a dinner and networking reception aboard the historic Frying Pan on the Hudson River, followed by a reception on the trade show floor Thursday evening.
On October 3, attendees can take part in expert-guided tours of green infrastructure projects across New York City, offering an opportunity to see innovative approaches in practice.
The conference will also culminate in the Jeffrey L. Bruce Awards of Excellence ceremony, celebrating outstanding achievements in design, research, policy, and more.
