In 2023, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities achieved remarkable success in promoting and implementing green roof initiatives across various urban landscapes. Through strategic partnerships, advocacy campaigns, events, and educational programs, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities played a pivotal role in fostering a greater understanding of the numerous benefits associated with green roofs, from reducing urban heat island effects to managing stormwater. The organization's dedication to creating healthier and more resilient cities resonated with communities in North America, leading to the creation of several community organizations dedicated to advancing green roof policies in their municipalities.

As Green Roofs for Healthy Cities looks ahead to 2024, the organization is gearing up for a particularly exciting year marked by the celebration of its Legacy initiative. In this special year, the focus will be on visiting the cities that were pioneers in implementing green roof policies, recognizing their leadership and the positive impact they have had on their communities. In person Grey to Green events will be held in Portland OR, and Chicago in 2024, and the Twentieth Anniversary of CitiesAlive will take place in Toronto Nov. 6-9, 2024. This Legacy year aims to inspire further collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and innovation among cities committed to sustainable urban development. Green Roofs for Healthy Cities envisions 2024 as a year of reflection, celebration, and renewed commitment to creating greener and healthier urban environments for generations to come.

Congratulations New Green Roof Installation and Maintenance Professionals (GRIMPs)

Responding to a lack of formalized, independent hands-on installation and maintenance training around green roofing systems and a lack of qualified professionals, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities began the process of developing a new training opportunity to address those deficiencies in the form of the Green Roof Installation and Maintenance Professional (GRIMP) certification program.
