Green Roofs for Healthy Cities Is Pleased to Announce Armando Villa-Ignacio to the Board of Directors
Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) is excited to announce the appointment of Armando Villa-Ignacio to its Board of Directors. Armando will serve as the Chair of the Emerging Professionals Committee, bringing a wealth of knowledge, passion, and dedication to fostering the next generation of leaders in the green roof industry.
Armando is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Colorado State University, where he studies under Dr. Jennifer Bousselot. His current research focuses on raspberry production in rooftop agrivoltaics.
"We are delighted to have Armando join the board and help us develop our Emerging Professionals Program", said Steven Peck, GRP, GRIMP founder and president, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities. " The GRP program is essential professional training for anyone wishing to design a successful, long-lasting green roof," he added.
With a B.S. in Conservation from SUNY-ESF and an M.S. in Horticulture from CSU, Armando’s academic and professional journey has taken him around the globe. He has presented his research in the United States, South Korea, Puerto Rico, and Germany. Recognized as a 2023 HortScholar by AmericanHort, Armando exemplifies leadership and innovation in the field of horticulture.
Beyond his research, Armando is a committed educator, teaching in the Horticulture and Landscape Technologies Department at Front Range Community College. He is also an active member of his community, serving as Social Coordinator for the HLA Graduate Student Council and Peer Mentor. In his free time, Armando enriches his life through music, singing with the Greeley Chorale, Harmony Road, and Empire Lyric Players, and playing violin with the Health and Wellness Orchestra in Fort Collins, CO.
As Chair of the Emerging Professionals Committee, Armando will play a pivotal role in engaging students and young professionals interested in the green roof industry, inspiring them to pursue innovative and sustainable solutions for urban environments.
