High School’s Roof Garden Feeds Community

Students at Maynard Jackson High School in Atlanta are learning while also giving back to the community.

They planted and are maintaining a roof-top garden that will help feed the surrounding community.

“It’s really important to give organic produce to the community and show them what we can produce in such a small space and the benefits from it. It’s amazing,” Christian Thomas, a gardening intern, told WSB.

Thomas is one of four paid interns, along with dozens of high school students, helping tend the project. The community service he performed helped him get a full college scholarship, WSB reported.

The students are growing everything from hot peppers to tomatoes to squash.
