Boston Society For Architecture Forms Green Roof and Infrastructure Team (GRIT) to promote Climate Change Mitigations

The Boston Society for Architecture (BSA) is pleased to announce the formation of the Green Roof and Infrastructure Team (GRIT) Knowledge Community. GRIT is an interdisciplinary collective of individuals with expertise or interest in green roofs and green infrastructure and with a mission to promote understanding of the value of green roofs, vegetated wall systems, and other green infrastructure in mitigating climate change and developing sustainable environments. The GRIT Knowledge Community will work to support education, policies and regulations that are favorable to green roofs and green infrastructure in general and meetings will be open to the public.

This past May, members of GRIT helped organize the Green Roofs for Healthy Cities’ Grey to Green Conference that was held in Boston at the BSA. The response to that conference was so positive that the group formalized their mission as a Knowledge Community under the guidance and support of the BSA. The Co-Chairs of GRIT are Gary Brock AIA, Senior Associate at HMFH Architects and Erik Hegre AIA, Partner, Behnisch Architekten. Other founding members include Pete Ellis, Recover Green Roofs, Nicole Holmes, Nitsch Engineering, and Laura Wernick.

The next meeting of the Green Roof and Infrastructure Team will be held remotely on November 16 at noon.  Andreas Dreisiebne will join remotely from Switzerland to talk about how green roofs and photovoltaics can happily coexist on a roof together.
