New: Financing Green Roofs and Green Walls With PACE Financing

Overcoming the initial cost barrier is one of the biggest hurdles green roof and wall projects face in getting off the ground. Reducing or eliminating this barrier is critical to expanding the adoption of these technologies on a broad scale. This course explores utilizing Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Financing as an alternative financing mechanism for green roofs and walls.

PACE programs allow property owners to finance the up-front cost of energy or other eligible improvements which are then paid back back over time through a voluntary property tax assessment. This course will cover what PACE Financing is, how it works, how you can take advantage of it, and review several case studies and cost benefit analyses of projects which utilized this financing mechanism.

Land Cover Classification and Change in Porto, Portugal: Spatial Analysis for Urban Vegetation and Green Roof Adoption

We analyzed landcover change in Porto, Portugal, using satellite imagery from 2017 and 2022. K-Nearest Neighbor classification revealed increases in impervious surfaces and decreases in vegetation, highlighting opportunities for green roof interventions and the importance of climate justice considerations.
